The French Embassy in Korea recently newly re-opened after 5 years of construction. The building was finally unveiled, and I was honored to be invited to the inauguration ceremony. The French Embassy was designed in 1962 by architect Kim Chung-up, who studied under architect Le Corbusier, and the building is known for its blending of Korean beauty with French elegance. This restoration was a joint work by architects Min-suk Cho of Mass Studies and Tae-hoon Yoon of Sathy. Catherine Colonna, Minister of Foreign Affairs of France, French Ambassador Philippe Lefort, First Lady Kim Keon Hee, Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Park Min-shik, and First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Chang Ho-jin, attended the event as well.
