Dear Korea CQ members,

From April 23 to 24, Korea CQ members visited Gangneung and Pyungchang, Gangwon-do, the beautiful city which is renowned for its nature, history, and tradition.

Although we gathered in the early hours of Saturday morning, Jerome Kim, Silvia Kim, Uloff Munster, Patricia Munster, Christophe Piganiol, Susan Ling, Jeong Ian, Hwang Sungwon, Hyun Ju Lee, So Yoon Park, Choi Jungwha, Didier Beltoise, Lucas and Daniel Munster were punctual at the meeting point, without any delay.

All participants safely rode the bus, and the bus headed for Gangneung smoothly.

The bus arrived in Seongyojang, the first spot of the trip, and every member appreciated the beautiful atmosphere of the house which was surrounded by a dense forest of tall and old pine trees.

Also, members learned that the Seongyojang house is one of the grandest Korean traditional houses, dating back three hundred years.

Then, we moved to the Sand Pine Golf Club, which is noted for its scenic beauty, to have a lunch.

After enjoying lunch, we visited the Ojukheon House, which is the historical site where Sinsaimdang, the mother figure of Korea, and her son Yulgok Lee yi lived.

Members could see the black bamboo around the house, and learned the name Ojukheon means house with bamboos as black as crows.

For the next program, members visited Chamsori Gramophone & Edison Science Museum. The museum was founded by Son Seongmok. Mr. Son warmly greeted each member and explained his collections.

Members were surprised at his collection, and learned that it is the largest gramophone museum in the world. It has a collection of 4,500 phonographs, 150,000 phonograph records, 1,000 books, and 5,000 items from 20 nations.

After the tour of the Gramophone museum, we had a time for walk along the Gyungpo Beach. It is the largest beach on the east coast of Korea, and was designated as a coast tourist spot along with Gyungpodae in 1982.

Members enjoyed the blue ocean, white sand embracing the waves, and the pine grove.

For dinner, we moved to the Korean restaurant ‘Daekwanryung Hanwoo Town’. We tasted delicious and high quality Korean beef with wine.

After having a wonderful dinner we checked-in at the ‘Alpensia InterContinental Hotel' to rest and sleep, and Christophe Piganiol, Susan Ling, Lee Hyun Ju, Hwang Sungwon, Ian Jeong and So Yoon Park enjoyed Noreabang.

On the following bright and sunny day, CQ members had a Korean and Western buffet style breakfast at the hotel and moved to Woljeongsa Temple.

When we arrived at the Woljeongsa Temple, Monk Dooeum greeted our members. He explained that the temple was founded in 643 during the reign of Shilla Queen Seondeok.

We were also given a valuable opportunity to meet the Chief Monk of Woljeongsa Temple.

During the hour, he emphasized the relation with our members. Also, members had an opportunity to breathe in fresh air and calm their mind and body in the glass Octagonal Pavilion which was inspired by the Louvre museum.

Lastly, the Chief Monk surprisingly presented a book and Korean traditional fan made by hanji, Korean paper, as a special gift for everyone.

After having some free time in Woljeongsa Temple, we all had wild vegetable Bibimbap and tofu for lunch.

Once we finished lunch, we departed for Seoul, ending our two-day trip.

Although there was a traffic due to preparations for 2018 Winter Olympic in Pyungchang, we all arrived on time.

CICI would like to express our gratitude to all our members for enjoying and participating in spite of busy schedules.

Thank you so much and have a nice day.

Sincerely,

Korea CQ Nayun Shin
