Dear Korea CQ members, On March 24, Korea CQ members visited Korea Furniture Museum located in Seongbuk dong. H.E. Arslan Hakan Okcal, H.E. Aingeal O’Donoghue, Martin Tricaud, Isabelle Tricaud, Yoo Seung Jae, Gilles Ouvrard, Choi Jungwha, K Chung, Jai Wook Lee, Amelie Provost, Jae Woo James Park, Patrick Defranoux, Didier Beltoise, Lissa Miner, Kurie Cho participated in the forum. At the banquet hall where spouses of G20 leaders had luncheon in 2010, we appreciated traditional wood furniture which the director Chyung Mi-sook has collected for many years. At the museum, different types of traditional wood furniture made of persimmon wood, maple wood, and paulownia wood potteries were displayed. With the explanation from the tour guide, every member was amused with sophisticated and dedicated furniture pieces. Each material has its characteristic, for example, persimmon wood furniture has a strong feeling so that men prefer and maple wood furniture was popular among women. Each furniture has a special meaning through its use, placement, and shape of decoration. We learned that circle represents sky, square represents earth, and triangle represents human. In the main garden, we get through the Bullomun Gate, which has a legend that you will get 10 years younger if you go through the door. Also we looked wonderful reconstruction tiled roof, and some parts were from Changkyung Palace when it was demolished in 1970s. Our members showed their deep interest on Korean furniture which our ancestors actually used in their lives, and it was precious time to understand their life style as well. When the tour was ended, we moved to a Korean restaurant and enjoyed Kalguksu:Korean Noodle Soup, Jumbo Dumpling Soup, Bossam: Korean steamed pork, and Buchimgae: assorted Korean pancakes. CICI would like to express our gratitude to Korea Furniture Museum an extraordinary place striving to promote the beauty of Korean traditional furniture to the world. We especially thanksto director Joo Hyun SHIM for allowing us to enjoy the antique furniture. Also we thank CQ members who attend the forum and enjoyed the night with us. Coming on 7th April, a special forum will be conducted by Song Seung Hwan, the president of PMC Production, at the residence of Turkish Ambassador. There will be a lecture on ‘Present and Future of Korean Wave.’ It will be great opportunity to listen to the ideas about Korean Wave by an expert of Korean cultural industry. Thank you.
