Title Korea CQ- Epilogue of lecture on 'Trend Korea 2019: 10 Consumer Trends'

On March 12, we had a lecture on ‘Trend Korea 2019: Ten Consumer Trends of 2019 Korea’ by professor Rando Kim at the residence of the Singaporean Ambassador.
 

H.E. Yip Wei Kiat, H.E. Peteris Vaivars, Rando Kim, Seon Hee Kim, Ki Young Sohn, Hyekyung Kim, Kwon-Ha Ryu, Byeong Eon Lee, Jae Yun Shim, Jisu Kim, Rina Okumura-Vaivara, Valerie Boissonneault, Erwan Vilfeu, Jay Kim, Jackie Son, Haewon Park, Jai Wook Lee, Seohyun Meng, James Park, Ian Jeong, Jinjoo Koo, So Yoon Park, Vivian Han, Hee Soo Weon, Yunjung Han, Tainam Jung, Sunhwa Dong, Jungwha Choi, Didier Beltoise, Crystal Park attended the forum.





H.E. Yip Wei Kiat, Singaporean Ambassador warmly greeted everyone and the members had some time to catch up during the reception.


The forum began with the ambassador’s welcoming speech.
The ambassador welcomed and thanked all the guests, and a video of beautiful, colorful, and passionate Singapore was played.  
 



Before the lecture, members had dinner prepared by the Singaporean Ambassador, enjoying Singaporean dishes Nonya Laksa, Char Siu, and Fruit Cake cooked by the ambassador, and other delightful dishes like Stir-Fried Beef with Black Pepper Sauce, Fried Chicken with Sweet Chill Sauce, Stir-Fried Vegetables, Seafood Fried Rice. Samosa, Spring Roll, Citrus Marinated Seafood Salad, Organic Tomatoes with Mozzarella Bocconcini, Pasta Salad, Sliced Seasonal Fresh Fruit, Honey Pecan Tartlet, and Hazelnut Praline Choux. 
 
After dinner, professor Choi Jungwha, President of CICI introduced the past and upcoming events of CICI in 2019. 
 
The long-awaited lecture by Korea’s most renowned trend expert Rando Kim, a professor of Consumer Sciences at SNU and the author of best-selling books ‘Youth, It’s Painful’, ‘Trend Korea’ series, and ‘It Takes a Thousand Episodes of Agony to Grow Up’ finally began. 
 



Professor Kim suggested ‘Piggy Dream’, a word made of first letters of 10 Trend keywords in English, as the top 10 trends of 2019, and explained the terms he created such as Cell Market, New-tro. Green Survival, Proxy Emotion, Millennial Family with interesting examples and stories. 
 
Professor Kim ended the lecture with Alvin Toffler’s famous quote “Change is not merely necessary to life – it is life”, emphasizing that “it is necessary to transform the social institutions and consumers’ perceptions according to the changes in industry, environment, and generations, and companies must be able to create goods, service, spaces with concepts in these changes”
