Dear Korea CQ members,
On October 6, Korea CQ October’s Wine Club was held at Park Hyatt Cornerstone located in Samsung-dong.
The event was sponsored by Bill and Lissa Miner of Chevron Korea. Christophe Piganiol, Susan Ling, Johan Vandromme, Haelyung Hwang, Eugene Bang, Sherry Hwang, Mathieu Elie, Ellen Kim, James Park, Hyun Ju Lee, So Yoon Park, Si Eun Song, Kwiyeon Kim, Didier Beltoise, Choi Jungwha attended this event.
Members arrived at Cornerstone, a high-class restaurant famous for the finest meat and seafood in the oak-fired oven, and conversed with each other during the reception while enjoying Francis Ford Coppola Sofia Blanc de Blancs Brut 2012 which flaunts a beautiful fragrance of citrus and delicate flavours of fruits.
Dinner commenced with a welcoming remark by Bill Miner and members enjoyed Sour dough bread with tomatoes and goat cheese. Sauvignon Blanc 2014 was a perfect choice to taste with the appetiser.
Sauvignon Blanc is one of the most beloved wines of the US PGA champions and both professional and amateur golfers. Members spent some time appreciating and sharing their thoughts on the flavour of the wine.
Then they enjoyed the delicious main dishes: Prawns and Scallops, Eggplant Tortelli, Han Woo Tenderloin or Roasted Rack of Lamb, and Meringue or Gelato.
During the Wine Club, members enjoyed Francis Ford Coppola Sofia Blanc de Blancs Brut 2012, Napa Sauvignon Blanc 2014, Clos du Val Chardonnay 2013, Joseph Phelps Innisfree Cabernet Sauvignon 2013, Poet’s Leap Riesling 2008. While tasting various flavours of different wines, members marvelled at the perfect pairings of the wine and food.
Every time the next wine was served, Lissa Miner explained about the subtle changes of flavours between different wines as the areas of production moved eastward from California. Her witty yet educational explanations were of great help to understand and enjoy different glasses of wines.
Members were interested in Clos du Val Chardonnay as it was famous for being loved by the late president Roh Moo-hyun for its fresh fruity flavour.
Also, the story that the name of Innisfree Cabernet Sauvignon was derived from Y. B. Yeats’ “The Lake Isle of Innisfree” stimulated the members’ interest.
After this mini lecture, Haelyung Hwang, Sherry Hwang, Mathieu Elie, Ellen Kim, James Park, Hyun Ju Lee, So Yoon Park, Si Eun Song, Kwiyeon Kim shared what they liked and how they felt about the different kinds of wines.
During dinner, Christophe Piganiol thanked Bill and Lissa Miner for preparing this lovely dinner where the members could enjoy delicious cuisines and flavoury wines. He revealed his strong ambition that he will make Wine Club even more educational yet friendly and casual so that good friends can come along and learn and taste the top-grade wines.
The night’s chef Steffan Heerdt came to the room and explained the dishes and shared his philosophy on cooking. Members had a great time listening to his explanationsand taking pictures with him.
Finally, Poet’s Leap Botrytis Riesling of which sweet fruity flavour and fresh mineral fragrance went perfectly well with Meringue and Gelato.
The highlight of the night was when members shared their thoughts on how the Wine Club should proceed. With Christophe Piganiol’s emcee, members suggested opinions on the matter.
In the next Wine Club in November, we are going to spend some time to listen to what the other members think about this matter, and we look forward to our member’s continuous participation.
Last but not least, we sincerely appreciate all participants for making our wine club more pleasant and give special thanks to Cornerstone for the best-quality cuisine.
Thank you and have a nice day.
